Eose Coghlan and her company were to have, given "Mrs. WarTen's Profession" n the Willis Wood theater last night but they didn 't. The police authorities said they shouldn't. Frank F. Bozelle of the board of police po-lice commissioners read the play and directed Chief Hayes to notify the manager man-ager of the Willis Wood theater that the play is of a nature not to be permitted per-mitted in a theater in Kansas City. The attorney for. the Willis Wood theater called on the commissioner and was advised to direct the "Mrs. Warren" War-ren" company to stay away from Kansas Kan-sas City and save expense. "I have not read the play," he said, "but all the objectionable matter is to be ent out, I can promise that." "You may as well try to give 'Hamlet' 'Ham-let' without Hamlet," was Bozelle 's reply. "I'd advise you to save the company com-pany its railway fare to Kansas City." |
