Show WONDER CAMP MUST BE GREAT Fabulous Stories of Big Ore Finds Say It Is Destined to Be a Second Goldfield in Near Future. The eyes of the mining world are turned on the great mineral zone In the Wonder district. The camp Is throbbing with life, while the population Is piling in at a rate that challenges the stampedes stam-pedes made in other Nevada mining camps. Wonder is less than one year old, and the record of discoveries and developments has few parallels In the history of Western mining. Here Is a story from Goldfield about the camp: The Nevada Wonder was located on the 30th of May last year. Now the mineralized min-eralized area has been explored over a district nine miles square, and definite knowledge obtained of the trend of veins and ledges. The Nevada Wonder is located lo-cated In the southeastern corner of the district. It has big ledges, with assays running from $10 to $500, principally silver. sil-ver. When the discovery was announced there was a rush from Fairview, sixteen I miles to the south, and locations were made In a hurry in a circle around the first discovery anything to get stakes down before the man immediately behind. be-hind. But with time to look about and dig a bit there have been opened up the Spider and Wasp. Rich Gulch, Christmas, Dickey V., Colorado. Golden Wonder and others, located away off In the northwestern north-western and southwestern coiners of the camp. Ore of a shipping grade has ben opened up on the Spider and Wasp by lessees In six separate shafts. Shares of this company are in demand in Goldfield at above par, or a valuation of $1,000,000 for the mine. On the Colorado, Rich Gulch and Golden Wonder, three mines that ad.loln each other, shipping ore has been opened up in a dozen directions. The most recent strike was made on the Golden Wonder, adjoining the Rich Gulch mine. Here the ore is high-grade tellurium and hematite of iron. Not a single assay from the ore runs less than 1150 to the ton. while nicked specimens run sky high. The strike created tremendous tre-mendous excitement in Wonder. The strike is especially notable on account of the values in the ore being principally gold, while nearly all of the ore in the ramp is silver. The ledge is seven feet wide in the narrowest part. On the Rich Gulch which adjoins. $400 rock is being brought to the surface from a vein even wider. The Nevada Wonder is owned by the Tonopah Mining company, with John Brock, president of the Tonopah A Gold-field Gold-field railroad, at its head. An engineer was sent to inspect the property, and after af-ter his report the bond calling for $300.-000 $300.-000 was taken up. The stock Is selling at $4 per share In Philadelphia. The Nevada Neva-da Wonder is six miles from the Spider and Wasp, and four miles from the Rich Gulch. This will Illustrate the wide extent ex-tent of the richly mineralized country. A. A. Codd. who Is largely Interested in Wonder, makes a glowing report of the place as a result of a recent visit. He savs the camp is the making of another Go"ldfleld. He believes there will be 5000 people In the district before many days. The mineral belt has been proved, he says, for fifteen miles northwest and southeast. Thirteen properties are reducing re-ducing shipping ore, the Nevada Wonder, Jack Pot, Spider and Wasp, Ruby Wonder, Won-der, Rich Gulch, Colorado, Golden Wonder. Won-der. Vulture, Stray Horso, Dickey V., Christmas and others. The railroad company has a corps of men In the field making a preliminary survey from Fallon, on the Southern Pacific, Pa-cific, forty miles north, to Fairview, and on to Wonder. The townsite of Wonder ho describes as ideal, lying on the side of a mountain with fine drainage and good air. Some town lots are valued at $10,000, and some residence lots at $1000. There are two weeklv newspapers, and a third is to be started'at Hercules. The place is peopled peo-pled with boosters, who believe In the future fu-ture of the camp, and are pulling together togeth-er after the manner of the Goldflnld crowd. He thinks there Is nothing like Wonder, except Goldfield. |
