Show MEMORIAL TO THE WAR'S HEROES Gov. Cutler Indorses Plan for Erection by School Children of Memorial in Form of Battleship. . Gov. John C. Cutler sent a letter this . j morning heartily indorsing the plan to build a memorial to all who took part in the Spanish-American war. The communication com-munication was in reply to a letter received re-ceived from LeRoy Iong. secretary of the Spanish-American Memorial association of Cleveland. It Is proposed to represent the battleship battle-ship Maine, destroyed in Havana harbor, as a memorial to all the soldiers and sailors sail-ors of the war. This representation is to he paid for by popular subscription, principally prin-cipally from the school childron of the Nation. Gov. Cutler Indorses the plan in the following words: "I am in receipt of your favor of April 17, in which you set forth the alms. ami purposes of your association. I consider it a most meritorious and commendabla project. Such a memorial as you propose, erected by the school children of the Nation Na-tion on the banks of tha Potomac, neap the Nation's capital, will be a striking object lesson in patriotism. It will also be an -object of great interest to citizens of our country on their visits to Washington, Wash-ington, and to tourists from abroad. "I wish you all success in your splen did undertaking, by which the memory and the fame of those who took part In the Spanish-American war will be strikingly strik-ingly perpetuated." |
