Show WILL CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING Judge and Mrs. Jonathan C Royle Will Have Been Married Fifty Years Tomorrow. To-morrow. Judge Jonathan C. Royle and his wlta Ellaa Klrtley Royle will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at their home in this city tomorrew evening. Married In Lexington, Mo., In 1857 the next ten year brought to them trials such as few young couples experience. When the Civil war broke out Royle. then a struggling young lawyer. Joined the Confederate army and later served as Judge-Advocate to Price's army. While the young husband was defending de-fending the cause which he believed right the mother was left at home with three young children. Once she was arrested ar-rested but was not placed In Jail, the oflii-er fn charge allowing her to remain at her own houee. t When the young attorney bad served his time in the army he returned to his home and at once started to Penver to engage In his chosen nrofesslon. With her children and a nurse girl only 14 years old, Mrs. Royle made the trip In a stage coach, a trip that consumed seven days and nights. The family lived In Central City. Colo., for eight yeara and In 1871 moved to California. Two years later they came to Salt Jake City which lias since been their home - Mr. and Mrs. Royle have had five children. chil-dren. Qne son died In Colorado a number of years ago. The living children are: Dr. Sinclair Royle. Edwin Milton Royle. the actor and playwright; Mrs. Martha Royle King, the musician, and J. C. Royle. the mining engineer, who for a time filled the position ot mining editor of THE TELEGRAM. |
