Show STRIKE CRIPPLES RUSSIAN INDUSTRY Idleness of Sailors of the Naphtha Flotilla Continues Con-tinues and Efforts of Arbitrators Ar-bitrators Fail. ST. PETERSBURG, April 22.-Russian industry Is being placed in a critical situation sit-uation by the continuance of the strike of sailors belonging to the naphtha flotilla flo-tilla on the Caspian sea. The efforts of Baron Taube, chief of the gendarmerie corps, who has been detailed to deal Independently In-dependently with the strfke, have not been successful. Only ten of several hundred tank steamers are In operation and both sides are determined to continue the strike. The oil residue known as masout Is now exhausted. Navigation will open In a few days, but owing to the strike the reservoirs below Astrakhan, which supply the river steamers, are empty and the shippers are unable to take advantage of the short period of high water. A veritable veri-table panic has been precipitated upon the Kazan bourse by the announcement made by the representatives of the oil companies com-panies that no mazout is available even for steamers. |
