Senator Seely declared that children of a family coming to Salt Lake City could not attend school until a residence resi-dence was established. Because the country members of the Senate believe tliat the proposed changing chang-ing of the time of taking the school census discriminates against the country coun-try school districts, they yesterday killed H. B- No. 45, by Croft, which changed the time from Julv to April. The argument for the bill was that in the cities most children of school age are at summer resorts and other places in July and a proper census could not be taken. The country Senators contended con-tended that in April many of the country children were in cities attending attend-ing school. Senator Miller of St. George declared that many of the children of the small mountain places about his home attended at-tended the school in St. George and were a burden upon that place. He said that St. George could better afford to take a census when the 'smaller dis-tricts dis-tricts received their apportionment of |
