Lobby Czecho-Slovakian and Austrian Have Odd Contact, Form Friendship Here Two "neighbors" of central Europe met quite by accident in the lobby of the Temple Square hotel Wednesday and formed a new friendship before they went their ways. Renard Zawilinskl of Prague, Czecho-Slovakia, representative of a hop firm, and Anton Scherenzel of Vienna, attache of an Austrian motion mo-tion picture company, overheard one another, noted the foreign tongues and struck up a conversation in German. Zawilinskl, who speaks some English, En-glish, told of a recent visit to China and Japan, and expressed surprise at the Panay bombing. What impressed him most in Salt Lake City? "The progress made in only 90 years. Most principal European cities are centuries old," he said. Scherenzel, who speaks no English En-glish but conversed in German with a Telegram reporter who also speaks the language, revealed he is in the United States for a reunion with four brothers whom he has not seen in 40 years. They will meet in Seattle, Wash., Christmas day. One of the brothers fought in the United States army against Austria in the World war. He said "all is quiet in Austria now," and declined to talk about Hitler and his nasi regime in Germany. |
