Y, Dec. 22 UFt The possibility of a prolonged inquiry in-quiry into the municipal affairs by . a special grand jury loomed today a the result of recommendaitons by a grand jury which Indicted seven of the 15 members of tha city , council. Tli vouncllmen and sbnrthef men were indicted on 'charges rang- ing from forgery to perjury, falsi- fication of records and obtaining proceeds from fraudulent Touchers. The grand Jury's final report, urging urg-ing appointment of a special prosecutor prose-cutor and impaneling of a special grand jury to carry on tha "gigantic task." recommended the inquiry be extended to the county government Supreme Court Justice James E. Norton ordered the report of the ' grand jury which Indicted 13 persons per-sons In all forwarded to Governor Herbert Lehman "to take any action ac-tion as he aees fit" Armed with a supremo court or- . der. the parallel inquiry of tha city council sought to question Albert O. Allgeyer, secretary of tho municipal mu-nicipal civil service commission. The council's Investigating committee commit-tee on which two of tha Indicted '. councilmen aarved had attssapted to subpena records of the commission, commis-sion, but the latter refused to surrender sur-render them en advice of its counsel and the stats civil service board. , Four councilmen were added to the list of three previously indicted in the final report of the grand Jury yesterday. John J. Doyle, John J. Kennedy and George J. Young pleaded innocent and were released on bail shortly after Indictments were returned. A fourth was not arraigned and was permitted time to raise bail. Doyle, Kennedy and Young were charged with obtaining proceeds from fraudulent vouchers. |
