The weekly spelling bee, conducted con-ducted over station KALL by Vern Bruggeman. took a back seat to the big costume party, but nevertheless never-theless a large number of club members participated for the big prizes. Winner of the shiny new bicycle bi-cycle representing first prize In the spelling bee was Jimmy Archuleta, Ar-chuleta, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roeendo Archuleta, 221 Emeril avs. Jimmy won by spelling the word "melancholy." The winner is a seventh grade student at Horace Mann achooL Runner-up In the bee was Richard Maeatas, 12, also a student at Horace Mann and a "good buddy" of Jimmy's Richard Rich-ard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maestas, 258 Barrett pL More than 2000 Salt Lake youngsters jammed Into the Utah theater Saturday morning as The Salt Lake Tribune and Salt Lake Telegram Mickey Mouse club held its annual Halloween party. Hundreds of club membera came dressed as comic characters from the pages of The Tribune and Telegram and competed for the fine prizea offered. Other hun-dreda hun-dreda came dressed as ghosts, witches, skeletons and other kindred kin-dred Halloween characters and some came "plain" but joined in the fancy fun which featured the meeting. The ahow started at 9:30 a.m. with nine cartoons. Then cams the big judging event which saw Allen Skinner, 10, West Jordan, representing "Alley Oop," and Patty Lou Jarvia. 5. 38 Coatsville ave., who came aa "Bugs Bunny," winning the major prizea in the boys' and girls' divisions. Other prizes for original costumes cos-tumes were won by Carolyn Cor-nia, Cor-nia, 5, Layton. who came as "Mickey Mouse"; Loretta Nordahl, 13, 2180 Panama at., "Sagebrush Sal"; Jo Ellen Erickson, 10. 677 N. 2nd West, "Dinah." and Cecils Skinner, 11, West Jordan, who came aa "Oola" from the "Alley Oop" strip. Runners-up in the boys' division Included.
