Denfeld aa chief of naval operations, opera-tions, Despite snowballing congressional congres-sional protests, Matthews told newsmen he is standing pat on the ouster move. "I Intend to go through with this," he said. "That's why I asked the president for the authority author-ity to do it I don't ask for things Just for the sake of aaking." The navy secretary joined Defense De-fense Secretary Louis Johnson in denying that Denfeld's removal was in reprisal for the four-star admiral's congressional testimony, attacking unification as now administered.. ad-ministered..
