Show Hew Exlradillon Policy Slated Noting that tn Bait Lake county alone 31791 has been expended during the last six months for return of felony suspects from other states, Oov. Herbert B. Maw announced Tuesday a new policy In the future requiring "enough proof of guilt before extradition pspers are signed." Precipitated by the governor's recent rejection of police requests on two extraditions because the appropriation of 19000 for the current cur-rent biennlum was exhausted, a survey disclosed that of 18 fugitives fugi-tives extrsdlted to Salt Lake county coun-ty in the last six months, three were freed after return because of lack of evidence, three received short sentences or were immediately immedi-ately paroled and extradition of two suspects was refused after officers of-ficers traveled at state expense to other states. Gov. Maw's refusal to extradite a bad check sua pec t last week waa explained Tuesday at a meeting In the governor'c office with Chief of Police L. C. Crowther and Commissioner Com-missioner of Public Safety L. C Romney. A complaint against Albert M. Thack, prepared by the county attorney, at-torney, showed only a 170 no-funds check against the suspect, the governor gov-ernor said, and he had no way of knowing that the man also was sought for issuing checks totaling nearly $1000 and for Investigation of automobile theft. |
