Good news to home owners was the commission's decision to reduce the original 50 increase in residential water rates to only 25 ri and reduce the Industrial Indus-trial rate from 30 to 15 percent, thereby lopping off $200,000. A deaf ear was turned to the pies of businessmen who vigorously . attacked leveling of a franchise tax of one-fifth of 1 on retell gross salea and It waa finally adopted to gain an estimated revenue reve-nue of $400,000 in 1947. The tax Is supposed to expire after a year. It becomes effective Jan. 1.
