Show ORDERED TO WASHINGTON Unexpected Change In the Plans of Brfc.-Gcn Fred Funstoo. DENVER. Colo., March 7. Brig.-Gen. fPrederick . Funston, commanding the Department of the Colorado. U. S. A., has received unexpected orders calling call-ing htm to Washington for a conference confer-ence with Assistant' Secretary of War Sanger. No reason was given for the sudden summons. The orders caused a revolution in Gen. Funston's arrangements. He was Instructed to assume command of the Department of the Columbia, embrac- J Ing Washington, Oregon. Idaho and the whole of Alaska, succeeding Gen. Randall, Ran-dall, who satis for the Philippines on' April 1st. His. orders were to reach Vancouver barracks, Washington, the department headquarters, . not later than March 10th, and he had arranged to leave Denver for the Pacific coast today. Gen. Funston declined to discuss the new order, or to make any comment on the change of arrangements.' It Is believed, be-lieved, however, that the War department depart-ment has in view extensive plans for the handling of troops In Alaska, in connection with the impending difficulties difficul-ties over the Alaskan boundary question. |
