Show TOPOLABAMPO. , Courtney de Kalb has a communication in the New York Evening Post on the port of Topolabampo and the country back of it in Mexico. We suspect he wrote the letter from Kansas City, because a Kansas City company for some years has been struggling strug-gling to build a road between that city and Topolabampo, Topo-labampo, and because some of his statements he must have obtained from hearsay." For instance, he puts down the port of Mazatlan as one of the four great ports of the Pacific, when the fact is that Mazatlan Ma-zatlan is simply an open roadstead and never can be a great port. But he is right in saying that Topolabampo Topola-bampo has a good harbor and that behind it is a marvelously rich valley, the Feuire valley, with a soil and climate that will produce everything grown in the tropic and temperate zones. He might have elaborated more upon the mines in the mountains above this valley; because, from all the information that can be obtained, that roSd when completed will run through two or three hundred miles of the richest rich-est gold and silver mining region known on earth. Thee is no better spot, we take it, for a young man who wants to make a fortune 'than along the line of that road, and the port of Topolabampo when the road is completed ought to have a great city grow up around it, for with the mines opened and at work.the profits of the mines will naturally go into that valley and into that city, and some of the estates will be most princely. |
