Show TOWN WRECKED BY BAD-TORNADO Several Are Injured snd Homes Destroyed in Kansas Twister ! . HILLS BO RO, Kan., June 7. Word reached here today of a tornado last night at Goessel, fifteen miles southwest of here, Goessel is a German Mennonite settlement. Several persons were seriously injured and the largest store in town and several sev-eral dwellings were destroyed. Details are ' unobtainable at this hour as the telephone and elegraph wires are down. Doctors drove from here to render assistance. as-sistance. Over six Inches of rain fell here. - Goessel was practically destroyed. About eighty persons were injured. The , most seriously hurt are: Katie Hendrlchs, aged 12: leg broken. Henry Ratslaff, a farmer; hurt Internally; Inter-nally; may die. Dr. Peter Rlchert, Injured about head. Rev. John Toevs, leg broken. - The tornado laid waste a strip 200 yards wide. Several stores and twelve residences were demolished and every residence in town was damaged. The Classen mill and the German parochial paro-chial school, nearing completion, were wrecked. The large Mennonite hospital was only slightly damaged. The Injured were taken there for treatment. |
