Show COLLEGES TO TAKE UP SPORT OF WRESTLING The wrestling game, which is one of th? oldest sports in existence, haa fallen woefully woe-fully Into disrepute lately and nowadays a pair of wrestlers can't get a crowd anywhere any-where in this country. This is plainly ahown when euch men as Gotch and Jenkins want to quit the game. They are the two best catch-as-cctch-can artists in the country but they can't get the money at the wrestling "game. Gotch wants to fight Jeffries and Jenkins is gqin to retire from the mat. The cause of the falling off in interest in wreatllng haa been the amount of crooked work which haa been done on the mat. There are. any number of crooked wrestlers and it is so easy to throw a match while apparently trying hard to win that hardly a match in the country is on the aquare. It Is noticed, however, I that the colleges have taken up the game lately and thla will without doubt make the sport more popular. The University of Pennsylvania is back of the scheme for intercollegiate matches, and haa ngreed to pay half the expenses of visiting teams. It is planned to have four classes, one below be-low 135 pounds, one below 154, one below 175 and one heavy-weight. Each college is to enter one man in each class. |
