Show NORTHWESTERN IS OWNED BY U. P. OMAHA, Neb., Feb. 11 A private telegram tele-gram received at I'r.ion Pacific headquarters head-quarters today from New York reads as follows: "Tunis of L'nlon Pacilic ownership owner-ship of Northwestern considered settied. Immeiiiaiu announcement not expected." The announcement furnishes the explanation expla-nation of the delay in the awarding of contracts for the Northwestern extensions exten-sions in the West, which were expected to follow immediately th" similar announcement an-nouncement by the llurlinglon. It Is thought possible that the new develop-nit-fits may put a stop to the Northwestern Northwest-ern extensions, for the reason that the projected line would almost parallel the Western lines of the Harriman system. Keports are in tfie nir of still larger deals, which are said to be rapidly coming com-ing to a head. As a result of the parsing of the Vandcruilt lines into Harriman control It is thought that the formal purchase pur-chase of the Southern Pacific by the l'nlon Pacific cannot be long delayed. The Harriman crowd Is also declared to be seeking control of the Uurlington, and It is reported that large interests of Burlington Bur-lington are already In the hands of Harriman Harri-man backers. |
