Smith, Democratic election clerk In precinct C, ward 1. was the most important witness for the contestee in the Peabody-Adams gubernatorial contest yesterday. He testified thai he knew personally ninety-six ninety-six of 110 persons who were declared fraudulent voters by a Republican expert. ex-pert. Thc Republican and Democratic judges In the same precinct testified to the honesty hon-esty of the election and stated that the two Supreme court watchers on duty there were satisfied with the conduct of the election, and hud signed a certificate to that effect. Two other witnesses testified they were acquainted with nearly all the persons who were declared by the Peabody experts ex-perts to r Illegal voters In two other precincts. Five witnesses also Identified their ballots, bal-lots, which had be-n pronounced spurious spuri-ous by experts. The witnesses at the niifht session included in-cluded a number of Republicans who had s rved as elation officials, and one. Mrs. Clark Cresslngham. stated that she personally per-sonally knjw the persona appearing on the po"ll-bok as having voted the 120 ballets bal-lets pronounced fraudulent by the ex-petts. ex-petts. William H. Wadley. a prominent attorney at-torney and grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of Colorado, Identified Identi-fied his ballot and that of his wife, which were Included among those classed as fraudulent by the experts. Former Health Commissioner Dr. A. A. Clough identified his ballot and that of his father, which were also In the bunch passed upon bv experts. The committee will today open eighteen ballot-boxes from Huerfano county, where the Democrats charged that extensive frauds were committed. |
