Show MISS WOOD WILL SUE Senator Piatt of New York to Face Breach of Promise Suit. RICHMOND, Va.. Feb. 11. Miss Mae C. Wood, formerly of Washington, has retained Attorneys Flaherty and Fulton of this city to represent her in a suit for alleged breach of promise which she contemplates bringing against United States Senator Thomas C. Piatt of New York. It is also said that Miss Wood proposes pro-poses to institute proceedings against several well-known New York lawyers and Government officials in Washington on the grounds of conspiracy, which she claims they entered Into at the time she first publicly threatened to sue Senator Sena-tor Piatt, a year or more ago following the announcement of the Senators engagement en-gagement to another lady. At that time Mtss Wood was in Paris, but she hurried to America and immediately imme-diately disclosed her alleged previous relations with Senator Piatt, causing a great sensation. The Richmond lawyers say they have In their possession many documents which are filled with the most endearing endear-ing terms, nil of them addressed to Miss Wood and signed "T. C. Piatt," "T. C. P." and "P." Several of these are said to be reproductions, repro-ductions, but the attorneys say that the originals are within easy reach. Evidences Evi-dences of gifts of various kinds are also said to be abundant. Letters are said to have passed between be-tween the Richmond lawyers and counsel coun-sel for Mr. Piatt, and at least one letter. let-ter. It is declared, has been received by the local firm from the Senator himself. Mr. Flaherty said that when the matter mat-ter was first patched up it was with the understanding that Miss Wood was to retain hfr position in the Postofflce department, de-partment, but that following close upon the settlement she was dismissed. |
