Show FIRE LOSS IN CHICAGO Building to Heart of City Burns, Damaging Many Concerns. CHICAGO. Feb. 11. A six-story brick building at 264-270 Fifth avenue, occupied by the Central Electric company and a number of mercantile and manufacturing concerns, was practically gutted by fire today. The fire is supposed to have been caused by crossed electric wires. The loss Is estimated at over $600,000, as follows: Building. 1100.000; Central Electric company, com-pany, $160,i0; A. Stern & Co.. $40.00; Gage, Downs & Co.. $B.O00; Jahn & Oilier, $75,000; Singer Manufacturing company, $65,000; Phillip Opper & Co.. $30,000; Conyne Manufacturing Co., $25.0u0; Banner Tailoring Tai-loring company, $25,000; Watt Tailoring company, $30,000. Several adjoining structures were damaged dam-aged by smoke and water. |
