Show Armed Forces With The Eighth Army In Japan Jap-an Staff Sergeant John W. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. N. Jones, 20-year-old paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Div., has recently been promoted to the rank of Tech Sergeant in his unit. He is assigned to E company of the 187th RCT, stationed at Camp Siedeniburg, near Sapporo, oa Hokkaido, Hok-kaido, Japan's northern island. Jones entered the Army at Fort Douglas, Utah, on Aug. 11, 1944, and after completing his basic training, was appointed to the Pacific theater of duty, joining the 11th Airborne Unit at Lipa, Luzon, P. I., on June 1, 1945. He soon qualified for the parachutist rating with the class No. 2 of June, and has been with the outfit out-fit since that time. Serving in the Pacific theater of duty, Jones twill now wear on his combat jacket, the Asiatic Pacific Pa-cific and Philippine Liberation ribbons, in addition to the Victory medal, the silver wings and Good Conduct medal, when he returns to the States. Prior to his enlistment, TSgt. Jones attended the SpringviUe high school, graduating in 1943. He was employed in the trucking business, but intends to continue in school, upon his discharge from the Service. |
