Show j Beta Sigma Phi Chapter Is Organized Here , Announcement is made of the organization in Springville Spring-ville of a Beta Sigma Phi chapter with sixteen charter members. mem-bers. The purpose of the organization is for cultural and social study. s The chapter was organized under un-der direction of Mrs Lennis D. Davis and the installation banquet honoring new pledgees to the chapter chap-ter was conducted Monday evening eve-ning at Valiley Tavern. Guests were seated by place cards bearing the gold crest of the sorority. Yellow roses, the symbol of the sorority, with delphinium, del-phinium, were held in ivory bowls and flanked with ivory tapers to center the table. Mrs. Orvil Clark led the group ' in singing, "God Bless America," accompanied iby Mrs. Maurice Bird. The welcome address was made by Mrs. Davis and responses were by Mrs. Ovil Clark, president of the Zi Beta Exemplar chapter, of Provo; Mrs. Sherman Christen-sen, Christen-sen, cultural director of Zi chapter, chap-ter, Provo, also Mrs. H. C. Johnson, John-son, sponsor of the chapter, and Miss Eleanor Critchlow, president of the Zi chapter. Following dinner, the impressive impres-sive pledge ritual was read by the oganizer, who is international representative rep-resentative from the sororities' headquarters in Kansas City, Mo' She was assisted by several officers offi-cers of the Zi chapter of Provo. Springville girls who were pledged to the chapter include, Miss Hannah Marie Billings, Mrs. M. James Brailsford, Miss Mary Cameron, Miss Klell Case, Miss La Vern Case, Mrs. R. H. Christian, Mrs. Theo H. Haws, Mrs. Waldo E. Jacobsen, Mrs. Frank E Jenkins, Jen-kins, Mrs. George F. Naylor, Mrs. Melvina Pulley, Mrs. Allan R. Stewart, Miss Evelyn Reed, Miss Norma Nell Straw, Ms. Verl F. Weight. The group elected Miss Mary Cameron president, with Ms. Allan Al-lan R. Stewart, vice-president; Miss Klell Case, recording and corresponding secretary; Miss Evelyn Ev-elyn Reed, treasurer; Mrs. Orvil Clark, cultural director; Mrs. Maurice Bird, social sponsor. Others in attendance' as guests were, the Misses Critchlow, Alice Dixon, Maxine Walker, Betty Jane Robison and the Mesdames Curtis Taylor, Louis Wolsey, Robert Wol-sey, Wol-sey, Wayne Cowley, Max Warne, Robert Johnson, H. C. Johnson, Sherman Christensen, all of Zi chapter, Provo, also the Misses Clara Vest, Donna Talboe, Pat Bowen and Mrs. Orvil Clark. The international cultural and social sorority has 1700 chapters with an active membership of 50,-000 50,-000 young women. Chapters cover every state in the union as well as in Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Hawaiian Islands and England. There are eighteen chapters in Utah at present. Mrs. Davis left for Provo on Tuesday afternoon where she will organize the third chapter in that city. The local chapter plans to meet twice monthly with announcement of meetings to be made later. |
