Emerson, prominent west coast merchant and retail store owner, last week completed a 24-year 24-year climb of the service ogani-zation ogani-zation ladder to become president of Kiwanis International, which embraces more than 163,000 bus- J. A charter member of the Kiwanis Kiwa-nis club in his home city of Pullman, Pull-man, Wash., Emerson has held practically every office, served on a large number of district and international in-ternational committees and directed direct-ed many activities during his long career. He believes that Kiwanis is an oganization built on personal person-al service, and backs this contention conten-tion by his activities and a record of 17 years of perfect club attendance. atten-dance. Born in Bloomdale, Ohio, Emerson Emer-son went to Pullman 41 years ago. At one time he operated 10 mercantile mer-cantile stores and became noted for his successful merchandising policies. He is a past president of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and served as chairman of J the Washington State Planning council and the State Post-Victory Employment committee. He is a trustee of the Washington State Retail Association. It is expected the new Kiwanis president will be accompanied by Mrs. Emerson in a tour of clubs to begin shortly. |
