Show Auto Racer Says Accidents Should Be Fewer . t v - Barney Oldfield, the famous early-day automobile racing driver driv-er who was a Salt Lake visitor the other day, put his finger on-one on-one of the chief causes of highway high-way accidents when he pointed out that, with all modern improvements improve-ments to motor cars, the drivers are still the same brand, with the same old defects. Safer roads, four-wheel four-wheel brakes, better fuels and a host of other innovations should have made motoring many times safer than in the days when Barney Bar-ney Oldfield was the speed hero of every boy. Indeed, a survey of modern motoring mo-toring conditions might indicate that the wider and straighter roads have been made the greater has been the temptation to operate op-erate vehicles at higher speeds. The faster traveling cars, the more powerful motors and the greater efficiency of design have unfortunately resulted in more careless driving habits among many motorists. |
