Show 'GAS PIPE-LINE NOW COMPLETE Nral gas can be brought to Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork and ?art of Orem now that the 10-inch gas pipeline from Salt Lake City to Provo has been completed, it was announced by Leonal S Kin- of Provo, district manager ot Mountain Fuel Supply Company. Com-pany. . The new pipeline brings natural -as from Montana, Wyoming and Utah gas fields to the Utah County Coun-ty towns. Orem previously had no gas service, the other three cities had been using coke oven gas from the Ironton plant of Geneva Steel Company. L B Tackett, chairman of the mayor - appointed committee to push the campaign, said, "We now have a supply of gas which wil not be interrupted by coal strikes' During the last three winters industrial users, school and even homes on occasion were deprived of coke oven gas when the coal supply to Ironton . was cut by strikes. Through the cooperation of Pres. Walther Mathesius of Geneva Ge-neva Steel Company and Vice President Jules D. Roberts, of Mountain Fuel Supply Company, an agreement was reached for cancellation of the contract under un-der which Geneva's Ironton plant provided coke oven gas to the Gas Company. The go ahead signal for extension ex-tension of the natural gas line to Provo was given by the public service commission and the work began on the line shortly after. |
