Show Six Young People Selected To Attend Boys', Girls' States Four young men, three from Springville and one from Mapleton, will join with hundreds of other "citizens," at the annual Boys' State encampment at Camp Williams, July 6 Will Attend Boys' State and Girls' State ... j ' -v. - k. - . :;4.- jp-" vv,r . r. ,4 ' -' - i m"Zf k , ': H I - " - . """" v": ' '"' to July 18, while two Springville girls have been selected to attend the second annual Girls' State at the U.S.A.C., Logan, the week of July 11 to 18. The selections were made by the various civic clubs of Springville Spring-ville and Mapleton, who are sponsoring spon-soring and paying all expenses of these young people to this training period. 'The purpose of the encampments encamp-ments is to educate young people, who are usually selected on a basis of leadership, character and scholastic ability, in the duties, privileges, rights "and responsibilities responsibili-ties of American citizenship. Fundamental principles are taught by actual practice and control con-trol of state offices and legislature legisla-ture during the session. A mythical mythi-cal 49th state is set up using basic Utah laws. Each individual is given some integral part in government. gov-ernment. Fun and entertainment and recreational activity will be a part of each of the camps. In addition ad-dition to hearing lectures, making elections and going through various governmental procedures, the boys will have periods to play basketball, swim and engage in other recreational entertainment. A similar program of instruction instruc-tion augmented by actual participation partici-pation in governmental routine will be taken up at the Girls encampment, en-campment, which will be featured by recreational periods. A short devotional period will also be observed ob-served each day at each of the gatherings, with various denominations denomi-nations being represented.
