Show GAS COMPANY ASKS COURT RATE STUDY The Mountain Fuel Supply Co. has petitioned the state supreme court to review and set aside a state public service commission rate reduction order which would cut company earnings by $1,366,-000 $1,366,-000 annually. The court issued a writ of certiorari cer-tiorari against the commission returnable re-turnable Feb. 11, requiring the commission to turn its records of the case over to the court. Attached to the company's petition peti-tion was its request for a rehearing rehear-ing which the commission denied. In it, the utility attacks virtually every finding of the state and alleges the proposed rate reduction reduc-tion amounts to confiscation of its property. ' The company also asked the court to suspend the effective date of rate reductions ordered by the commission. The new rates, which would reduce bills of smaller commercial com-mercial and domestic users of natural na-tural gas from 44.5 per cent to 14.3 per cent, would become effective effec-tive Feb. 15. If the court follows the procedure pro-cedure it used in a rate case re view against Utah Power & Light Co., it will order the company to impound the difference between be-tween the present rates and the reduced rates until a decision is rendered. The court is required by Utah law to give priority consideration to rate case appeals from public service commission orders. |
