Show HEALTH REPORT SHOWS FEWER DISEASES FOR WEEK Two-hundred and eighty-four cases of notifiable diseases were reported by physicians and state health officers to the State Department De-partment of Health for the week ending December 19, 1947. Last week 439 cases were reported and 308 for the corresponding week last year. Again chickenpox is the leading cause of morbidity for the week with 182 cases. Epidemic ringworm of the scalp has been reported for the first time from Richfield. Three cases were reported during the week two of which were boys thriteen years of age and the other a young child fifteen months of age. The diphtheria total of eighteen cases for the past week is the second largest diphtheria week since the week ending December 5 when thirty cases were reported. All eighteen cases reported this week had the onset of their illness during late November and the first ten days of December. We have had 101 resident cases of diphtheria reported for the year to date and that now equals the number of cases for the last high diphtheria year of 1938 with 101 cases. With one report week left in this year, it now appears to be almost certain that we will have at least a few more cases of j diptheria reported and thus ex-' ex-' ceed the previous 1938 high. |
