LeVear Hone Writes Letter Of Appreciation From somewhere in the Pacific came a letter this week from LeVere Hone, telling of a slight change in his address and also expressing ex-pressing his appreciation for the Herald. He mentions the honor roll as an interesting feature and states that he likes to see what names are added each time it comes out. He mentions that he has met two Springville boys since leaving leav-ing the good old U. S. A. They are Jack Bailey and Ray Holt, but he talked only a short time with them as they had to get to their boat. LeVear is stationed at a naval air base. Armed Forces 4 Glenn Turner Visits Family Glenn Turner, high school art instructed, who enlisted in the Marines, spent a few days' leave here this week with his family and friends. Glenn Clark Visits In Springville Glenn Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Clark, returned the latter part of last week to his station sta-tion at Mare Island after visiting relatives and friends here. He is with the U. S. Navy. Correction Made In Address In last week's Herald, we stated stat-ed that Ray Clark had been transferred trans-ferred to Mather Field, Colo. It should have been, Mather Field, California. Keith L. Whitney Enlists In Air Corps Keith L. Whitney, son of Mr. and Mr3. Mack Whitney, has enlisted en-listed in the Army Air Force Reserve Re-serve and will be called some time after his 18th birthday, according ac-cording to a communication from recruiting headquarters. Local Serviceman Completes Primary Training Eldon Reo Ewell, 21, of this city has completed his primary flight training as a Naval Aviation Cadet. Cad-et. He has been at the U. S. Naval Nav-al Air Station at Livermore, Cal., a unit of the Naval Air Primary Training Command, and has now been transferred to another station sta-tion for intermediate training. A son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ewell, Ew-ell, he is a graduate of Springville high school and attended Los Angeles An-geles Junior College, California. Reginald Oakley Home On Furlough . Visiting relatives and friends , here and in Provo the past week was Reginald Oakley, who is stationed sta-tioned with the Army at Fresno, Calif. He is in the capacity of flight chief in a replacement depot. Letter Comes From N. Clifford Pierce In a letter received from N. Clifford Pierce, stationed with the Public Relations office at Camp Claiborne, La., he states that beginning be-ginning July 16, they will leave for Utah on a 15-day furlough. His wife, the former Norma Redd of Blanning, Utah, will remain here with her mother. She has been employed as secretary in the troop movement division at the camp, and recently won fourth place in an essay contest sponsored spon-sored by the army forces training center at the camp with a composition compo-sition entitled, "Why We Fight," for which bonds were awarded. Don Miller Goes To Farragut, Idaho Don Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, left the past week fbr his boot training at the naval staiton at Farragut, Idaho. Visits Wife, Relatives Here A. Grant Richardson has returned to the naval air sta- Byron Wardle ' Gets New Address The following note of appreciation apprecia-tion and information on his address ad-dress change was received from Byron Wardle this week: "I'm glad of the necessity of informing in-forming you of my change of address ad-dress because while doing so I can thank you and all concerned for the presence of the Herald at Mail Call once a week and a pleasant occasion it always is. "Our division was just moved from the peaks of- the Colorado Rockies to the rolling plains of Texas. A somewhat unpleasant change but a necessary one. We were all very surprised to land here since we are ski troops but it has all turned out to be quite logical, just a brief interruption in our regular training until we have winter conditions again. Max McKee Visits Home Town Stopping a few days here en-route en-route to a new camp, Max McKee visited his mother, Mrs. Agnes uon ai wiauie, van., alter spenu-nig spenu-nig ten days here with his wife, the former Norma Clegg, and other oth-er relatives and friends. A fellow reads constant news from home to help him through endless months of heat and rain. "Byron Hardy and I have become be-come close friends since he was assigned to this battalion. He is one of the best-liked fellows in the outfit and a credit to Springville. Spring-ville. We attend church each Sunday Sun-day night our Mormon services are well attended, about forty at each meeting. For transportation transporta-tion we use the ambulance. Robert Harrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison, left recently for overseas duty. His wife and sons, who have been visiting vis-iting in Springville, plan to return re-turn to their home in the east soon. C. Burton Johnson Goes Into Service Among local service men who left for training recently was C. Burton Johnson, who is stationed at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Ark. |
