Show Makers Triumph With Superfort The greatest single challenge ever involved in producing an instrument in-strument of war has ' been met triumphantly by America's manufacturers man-ufacturers in building Boeing B-29 B-29 Superfortress of the type that recently bombed Japan. Five great airframe factories are turning out the bombers on assembly lines, Fisher Body builds sub-assemblies, while the Dodge plant constructed to build the 2,200 horsepower Wright engines is the the largest single factory unit in the world. The big bomber is being built 'n Boeing- plants at Seattle and I 'n, Wash., and at Wichita, -JLm., at the Glenn L. Martin plant in Omaha, Nebr., and the new Bell Aircraft factory in Marietta, Mar-ietta, Ga. Hundreds of sub-contractors, suppliers, and vendors are playing a part in the program which involves billions of dollars. Production at some aircraft plants has ceased so that facilities and manpower may be diverted to the superfortresses. |
