Show German Crimes To Be Expiated Soon The British and Canadian governments gov-ernments have concluded that the death of fifty captive airmen, reported re-ported shot for attempting to escape es-cape by the Germans, was the result re-sult of Nazi executions, unauthorized unautho-rized by international law, and consequently a crime which must be expiated by those guilty when the war ends. The fact that none of the prisoners pris-oners of war were wounded is almost al-most conclusive evidence that the men were not shot while trying to escape. A.11 of them were killed and the bodies of 28 were cremated cremat-ed by the Germans. Mr. Anthony Eden has assured the House of Commons that those guilty of such "cold-blooded acts of butchery" will be tracked down to the last man and brought to "exemplary justice." This is as it should be and does not reflect a blind revenge but rather a determination deter-mination to punish the guilty which may have some bearing on the protection of other prisoners of war in German hands. |
