Boyer Polls Highest Number of Votes ; Bennion Strong- For Republicans Contrary to early reports from throughout the state, Stanley N. Child, candidate for governor on the Democratic ticket, won by a wide margin over his opponent, Governor Herbert B. Maw. Totals ror tne two were, ses tor Child and 212 for Maw, in Springville. On the Republican ticket, J. Bracken Lee won over Reed E. Vetterli with 161 for Lee and 132 for Vett-jrli. Selvoy J. Boyer, democratic candidate for the state house of representatives from district 4, carried every one of the eight districts dis-tricts in Springville by a wide margin over his opponets, William Wil-liam Grotegut of Spanish Fork, and Howard C. Jensen of this city. Adam S. Bennion was also the choice in all districts as the Republican Re-publican candidate for the office of United States senator. Total votes cast in the various districts for the respective candidates candi-dates were as follows: On Democrat ticket, Governor, Govern-or, Stanley N. Child, 368; Herbert Her-bert B. Maw, 212; state auditor, Ferrell H. Adams, 327; Oliver G. Ellis, 202; for state treasurer, J. E. Holmes, 185; Reese M. Reese, 344; for superintendent of public instruction, E. Allen Bateman, 265; David Gourley, 232; for state representative, S. J. Boyer, 399; William Grotegut, 31; Howard C. Jensen, 100; for 4-year county commissioner, Sylvan W. Clark, 357, Ray E. Shelley, 161. On the Republican ticket, J. Bracken Lee polled 161 votes and Reed Vetterli, 132; for superintendent superin-tendent of public instruction, Burton Bur-ton K. Farnsworth, 228, Kenneth E. Mills, 46; for United States senator, Adam S. Bennion, 237, Oscar W. Carlson, S2, George H. Crow, 0, David J. Wilson, 11 ; for -representative in congress, Quale Cannon, Jr., 209; C. Ed Lewis, 65. Mapleton voted 30 for Child and 11 for Maw on the Democratic ticket for governor, and 15 for Bracken Lee and 20 for Vetterli on the Republican ticket. |
