Show ' Hews of Interest From Servicemen "pfc" DuWayne H. Donithorne, a former Brigham Young University Univer-sity music student, recently was graduated from the Far East Command Chemical School at Camp Gifu, Japan. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J H Donithorne of 638 Brookside Dr Springville. Pfc. Donithorne was stationed at Camp Cooke, Calif., before he was transferred to Japan. , Great Lakes, 111.. Old ships, like old soldiers, are seldom forgotten for-gotten and especially the auxiliary cargo ship USS Mathews, recently recent-ly removed from mothballs with a new crew of men like Eugene Davies, engineman fireman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davies of Route 1, Springville. The Mathews Math-ews .has been recommissioned at San Francisco. Calif., as one of the Navy's logistic support vessels ves-sels after after being in the Reserve Re-serve (mothball) fleet for the past four years. REESE AIR FORCE BASE, TEXAS Airman Thii-d Class Russell L. Barker, son of Mrs: Hannah Skinner, of Spanish Fork formerly of Springville, recently reported to Reese Air Force Base, Texas, for assignment with the 3500th Air Base Group. Barker, a graduate of Springville Spring-ville high school, enlisted in the Air Force in January, 1952. Prior to his assignment to Reese, he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Reese is twelve miles from the west Texas city of Lubbock. It is one of two advanced multi-engine pilot training base?.. Cadets receive their last six months of training here and upon graduation receive commissions as second lieutenants in the United States Air Force Pe-gerve Pe-gerve and their silver pilot's wings. Grant Nielson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson, has spent this week in Springville with his parents and friends. He was to leave today for Fort Lawton, Washington, from where he expects ex-pects to get his assignment to Japan. He was stationed for the past five weeks at Fort Holabirt, Md. |
