Show Cancer Chairman Appointed; Program Outlined April has been designated as Cancer Control month and during the entire month special emphasis will be placed on the educational program sponsored by the American Ameri-can Cancer Society; on the campaign cam-paign to collect funds with which to carry on the cancer control activities act-ivities and in general to inform the public of the danger of cancer and the methods of control. Woodrovv Seeley has been appointed appoin-ted chairman of the cancer campaign cam-paign in Springville and h has enlisted en-listed the aid of the Springville high school Pep Club. The club girls under the direction of President Pres-ident Pat Bills, will distribute literature lit-erature and collect contributions to this campaign. A special date will bo announced later. Among the things which the public is asked to remember in connection con-nection with the control of cancer are: Know cancer's seven danger signals sig-nals yourself. Cancer is the number two killer. More children, under fourteen years of age, die of cancer than of any other disease. While it is estimated that, in 1951, 70,000 Americans were saved from dying of cancer twice as many could have been saved by early diagnosis and prompt treatment. treat-ment. X-ray, radium and surgerv, used together or individually, will cure cancer if treatment is started in time. Last year some 215,000 men, women wo-men and children in the United States died of cancer. Fighting cancer is everybody's job the housewife who rings doorbells . . . the physician who gives a thorough physical examination examin-ation . . . the businessman who calls on a community leader for a special gift . . . the scientist who spends years in study of a hormone hor-mone ... all these are crusaders in the fight to conquer cancer. The common goal is to save many millions of lives. |
