Donald Watts, the line play of the Red Devils and a rejuvenated cheering section spurred 'on by the welcome music of the high school band, the Springville eleven chalked up an important 12-6 victory vic-tory over visiting Spanish Fork last Friday. Spanish Fork drew first blood when they recovered a fumble on the Red Devil 42-yard strip and on the following play, Ostler took a hand-off and went the entire distance dis-tance to score. The plunge for the extra point was stopped cold. With a six-point deficit staring them in the face, the Devils went to work with renewed determination. determina-tion. Starting on their own 34-yard line, they rolled goal-ward with Bird making yardage and Watts eating up 44 yards for the score around left end. Good blocking and the deceptive play completely caught the Spanish Forkers off guard. Friel's attempted placement was wide. After holding the Spaniards on downs the Devils took over again i on their own 39 and Watts and Bird made downs to the Don's 36 from where Watts again made a beautiful right end run to pay dirt. He was assisted by good line play and blocking. His try for a line plunge was short and the score stood at 12-6. In the second half the outstanding outstand-ing run of the game came when Watts took the ball from his own 20 and ran to the Don 20 before being pulled down by Ostler. Springville got to the 8-yard line but was held on downs. Both teams battled scoreless for the second half of the game although Spanish Fork threatened with pass attempts at-tempts which were thwarted by Friel, Carter and Graves. Beardall, Burt and Haymond looked particularly partic-ularly good on the line with Carter playing an outstanding defensive game. Warren, who made a nice 15-yard gallop, played well but Bird and Watts were the consistent consis-tent ground gainers during the game.
