Show CRACK IN THE KREMLIN WALL :j$v:7g output : HEALTH INSURANCE FOR THE MILLIONS During 1950, all forms of voluntary health protection pro-tection made great gains, according to a factual report re-port just issued by the Health Insurance Council. At the end of the year, at least half the nation's population popula-tion was covered by one type or another of voluntary insurance against economic hazards of sickness and accident. ' This means that substantially more than 75,000,000 men, women and children have purchased health protection. They purchased it because they wanted it and could afford it not because it was shoved down their throats by law. And the number is still growing very rapidly. Soon, the experts have forecast, at least 100,000,000 Americans will be covered.- Here is the answer to the argument that we, as a people, can't obtain health protection for ourselves, and so must be subjected to a Federal compulsory scheme which would cost us at least $6,000,000,000 a year in new taxes and probably a great deal more and would make the politician the boss of the doctor. The cost of voluntary health insurance is usually us-ually very modest a few dollars, a month covers a whole family. The benefits have been materially broadened, and authorized fees for doctors and hospitals hos-pitals have been increased to take care of the cost-trend cost-trend of the times. The most striking thing of all has been the enthusiasm with which the people have responded re-sponded when this protection is offered them. Health insurance is a relatively new concept, and its growth has been amazing. A free and independent people gradually work out their problems. And they keep their freedom and self respect while doing so. |
