Show City's Clean-up Project Seems To Be Novel Event Taken quite for granted by citizens citi-zens and students, Springville's annual an-nual spring clean-up is apparently apparent-ly attracting national attention, due perhaps to the unique fact that the students turn out enmasse and rack the streets. While the clean-up has been the custom for some years now, this spring, a national magazine had an article and pictures concerning the part which students play in the clean-up saving the city, it stated, some $5000. Now this week, Postmaster J. Emmett Bird has received a letter let-ter from Elsie Hix of Hollywood, Calif., asking for information con- cerning the clean-up. She states that she "understands that for the past 36 years the citizens of Springville turn out in full force and clean up the town. According to the information I have, everything every-thing is cleaned 1 including the streets, private yards and municipal munici-pal buildings. With the entire city cooperating it takes less than three hours to do the job." "If my facts are correct," states Miss Hix, "I should like to mention men-tion this annual cleaning spree in my syndicated newspaper feature, 'Strange as it May Seem'." Miss Hix asks for any additional information which the postmaster may have concerning the project. Springville will undoubtedly be wondering if this is the only city which has a clean-up. |
