Show City Water Plays Part in State Health Inspection The City-County Health department depart-ment has been informed that eating eat-ing establishments, motels and hotels, ho-tels, and Grade A Milk producers and processors will be rated downward down-ward by the State and Federal health services on survey ratings of these industries. The following is a quotation from the state health department: "May we advise ad-vise that it is and will continue to be our policy to debit a restaurant restaur-ant or motel for unsatisfactory water whenever an inspection is made. Obviously this must be done even in cases where the restauiv ant or motel in question is connected con-nected to a city water supply if such supply fails to meet standards. stand-ards. It is our opinion that tourists tour-ists and others patronizing such establishments have a right to expect ex-pect a safe water .supply." The milk industry likewise will be debited deb-ited under similar circumstances. On a federal survey a violation (Continued on page two) City Water Plays Part In State Inspection (Continued from page 1) of water supply will count five (5) points against the establishment establish-ment connected to an unapproved supply. Since both the U. S. Public Pub-lic Health Cervice ordnance on milk and eatoing establishments have been adopted by the Board of Health, it is necessary to have a federal survey every two years if we are to remain on such stand- jards. A survey rating of 90 or above is -required for interstate shipments of milk. Last year the water supply of only one major community and three small towns met the standard stand-ard of the public health service. The first five months of 1954 shows 'that the water samples of four of the major cities and six towns have failed to meet satisfactory standards. stand-ards. The state health department recommends re-commends that all cities and towns having a municipal water supply submit samples at least monthly to the state laboratory for analysis. analy-sis. Results of the analysis are sent to the city officials after each test is completed so they may know the condition of the water being furnished their citizens. It is the recommendation of the city-county health department that immediate steps be taken by those cities and towns whose water supplies sup-plies have shown contamination to eliminate the sources of the contamination con-tamination if possible. If the source cannot be corrected, then the supply should be chlorinated so that the bacteria can be destroyed de-stroyed before entering the city water mains. |
