Show Springville Guardsmen Leave Sunday For Two-Weeks Summer Encampment Springville members of the Utah National Guard will begin their annual summer encampment at Camp W. G. Williams Sunday, June 6, according to an- 'nouncement by 2nd Lt. Milton B. Giles, commanding officer of Company Com-pany A, 1457th Engineer Battalion, Batta-lion, which headquarters at Springville. Spring-ville. The Guardsmen will move by truck convoy to the Point-of-the-Mountain training site where they will begin 15 days of intensive military training. The camp will serve as a "refresher" "re-fresher" for veteran Guardsmen, but it will be the first real taste of army life for about 1,000 new members. These men, who joined since the 1953 camp, will undergo a rugged basic training course. Artillery, engineer, military police, po-lice, ordnance, band and medical units of the guard will function as they would if placed on active duty in a national emergency. The 2,700 officers and enlisted men will live-in live-in a tent city, cat army chow and drill daily in tactical problems. They will put into practical use subjects which they have studied in armory drills throughout the past year. Demolitions, bridgo building, live artillery and small arms firing and general soldiering will be iiv eluded on the training schedule for the "citizen-soldiors." Several parade reviews and a combined air-ground demonstration demonstra-tion on Governor's Day will add color to the encampment, which will be under command of Brig. Gen. Maxwell E. Rich, Rait Lake City, state adjutant general. Guardsmen will attend the camp from home towns throughout the state. They will leave armories Saturday and Sunday in Smith-field, Smith-field, Logan, Bripham, Ogdcn, Garland, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Murray, Vernal, Tooele, Lchi, American Am-erican Fork, Orem, Provo, Springville, Spring-ville, Spanish Fork, Nephi, Price, Manti, Mt. Pleasant, Richfield, Fillmore, Beaver, Cedar City and St. George. |
