Show Hew $3000 Bridge ; Constructed at Mouth of Canyon With completion the past week 0 a $300 bridge at the mouth of Habble Creek canyon, the canyon bridges washed away in the 1952 floods have all been restored, it was announced this week. The original design for the Hobble Hob-ble Creek bridge called for a $10 000 concrete structure, but by use' of pressure treated piling and timbers instead of concrete, a $7000 saving was realized, it is StThe $3000 cost included backfilling back-filling and building of a new road leading into the new bridge. It is felt that the pressure-treated wooden bridge has fully the capacity ca-pacity of a concrete structure of the same span. The wooden structure struc-ture sits on dowels on top of piling pil-ing and in case of a new flood, a big wrecker could pick up the deck and carry it away. This would allow al-low flood waters to pass between piling without washing out the bridge. ...... While the original bridge was of plank intended to carry passenger cars only, the new bridge will support sup-port 50-ton trucks, those in charge of construction state. |
