Show Minutes of the City Council Meeting Held Monday Evening, January 16 'side of Main Street facing the ' City Park. It was moved by CI. Whiting and seconded by CI. Ruff the City approve ap-prove the action by the Memorial Board for the payment of the drawing of the plans for remodeling remodel-ing the Memorial building by Robert Rob-ert L. Springmeyer, to be paid from the Memorial Fund in the amount of $400. The motion passed unanimous. Scoutmaster Oliver Branan and nine" scouts were present as a requirement re-quirement of their Citizenship award. They offered their services to help in cleaning up Kelly's Grove as one of their good turns and toward conservation. The recommendation of Mayor Cherrington that CI. Whiting be appointed as the City Council representative rep-resentative on the Memorial Board was approved by the Council. Alvin Beardall resigned as dog catcher. Glen Coffrnan, Jr., appointed ap-pointed to take over the job in connection with his part time work in the police department to be paid on the same basis as Mr. Beardall $1.50 for each dog licensed and $1.50 for each dog killed. It was moved by CI. Ruff and seconded by CI. Nielson all bills properly signed be paid and meeting meet-ing stand adjourned. Lloyd J. Gary Payne a representative of the Provo Daily Herald, met with the Council in regards to advertising advertis-ing in the Progress Edition to be pugbhsheSein February. The cost for a full page to be approximately $150. It was moved by CI. Strong and seconded by CI. Whiting that inasmuch as no funds were set up in the budget for advertising the City would have to decline to take advertising in the Daily Herald. The motion passed unanimous. CI. Strong suggested the Recorder Record-er furnish each of the Council members a copy of tne vj. committees, department heads, men in each department, wages paid to each employee, a list of equipment and properties and other information that would be helpful to the Council members. CI. Whiting suggested a curb and gutter improvement district on fourth south from main street to fourth east should be considered as soon as possible. He also reported report-ed the heating system at the Library Li-brary not working satisfactory. Attorney Howard was instructed to contact those responsible for design de-sign and construction and have it corrected. It was moved by CI. Ruff and seconded by CI. Nielson that the W. W. and Sewer committee be authorized to solve the pump problem prob-lem in that department by repair, replacement or whatever is necessary. neces-sary. The motion passed unanimous. unani-mous. Paul Haymond, William Phillips, David Thomas and Platte Watts were present representing the Memorial Me-morial board. The plans for remodeling remod-eling the Memorial Hall for City offices and rooms for the Veterans having been approved by the Veterans Vet-erans board. The Council studied the plans. All members of the council coun-cil were favorable to it. All of the City offices, including the Police Department, jail, engineering dept. Recorders office and maintenance would be less and would be more convenient for the public. Ways and means of financing the amount necessary in excess of the Memorial Memor-ial fund were discussed. It was suggested the City might sell the city owned property on the east |
