Show Readership Study Shows Weeklies Best Read Papers "Studies of readership habits have shown that the weekly newspaper news-paper has the highest readership and greatest local circulation .than any other printed media," Harrison Harri-son Conover, publisher of the Springville Herald, told members of the International Foot Printers Association. Guest speaker at the Foot Printer Print-er luncheon at the Newhouse Hotel, Ho-tel, Thursday afternoon, April 16, Mr. Conover stated that weeklies have polled 80 percent on readership reader-ship surveys throughout the state while dalies rank 22 35. Television Tele-vision and radio have a listening audience of about 14. In local areas, the weekly circulates to 81 per cent of the population. "The country newspaper editor must be a man of strong convictions," convic-tions," the Springville publisher stated. "He is expected to fight for a great many causes. He fights a constant battle to maintain those freedoms we hear about so much on a national level such as the freedom of the press, the right of the people to be informed on their government, the right to have honest, hon-est, competent public officials. "A specific instance of the country coun-try press upholding the rights of the people, is a case now before the courts testing the right of public officials to withhold from the people minutes of the officals' meeting until the officials consider con-sider the minutes 'safe for publication.' publi-cation.'
