Indian war veterans, who are holding their annual gathering here, are greatly enjoying the many features planned for their diversion. diver-sion. Many tents have been pitched in the city park, which is bright with national na-tional and state colors, in honor of the few remaining home defenders of the pioneer pio-neer age. The encampment will continue con-tinue up to and including August 15. The f.rst day's program was held in the ' opera house at i:30 p. m. yesterday. ! District Commander John K. Booth of ' Provo acted as master of ceremonies. A i martial band, composed of musicians from Provo and Moroni, played the opening open-ing selection, and Oscar YV'ilkins of Provo offered the invocation. Mayor George It. Haycock made the address of welcome, and John K. Booth responded. Commander-in-chief J. M. Westvvood gave a synopsis of the organization organ-ization of the Indian War Veterans' association as-sociation in Springville twenty-five vears ago up to the present, and Mrs. Mary Gardner of Richfield told of Indian troubles in Thistle valley during the Black Hawk war. Comrade Morton of Arizona told of his experiences In the same war. and a selection bv the band and benediction by the chaplain closed the first program. This morning's program also was held In the opera house and consisted of music by the martial band, vocal selections selec-tions and reminiscences. The afternoon program, held at the same place, was also largely composed of musical numbers. Similar program will be given tomorrow tomor-row and the meeting will close Friday with the election of officers and the transaction of other business. |
