As a part of the nation-wide campaign to raise $5,000,000 for the erection of a j monument to the late Theodore Rouse- ; veit at Washington, D. C, together with j a people's park at Oyster Bay, the home 1 of the hero of San Juan hill durln- the latter part of his life, a mass meeting will be cai:ed at the Hotel Utah, to- 1 morrow night, according to announce- 1 ment made yesterday oy Raymond S. ! Richmond of San Francisco, who is in charge of publicity for the drive in the : lntermountain and Pacific coast regions. . It will be the purpose of the meeting. Mr. Richmond explained, to take initial ; steps in the perfection of an organiza- j tion to raise the necessary quota allot- j ted to Utah and Wyoming. Friends and ; admirers from both of these states of i the late president will be present. Ac- ! tive solicitation for funds will begin Oc- j tober 20 and will continue until October '. 21. . ! The meeting tomorrow night will be ; addressed by one of the national execu- j tive committeemen of the Roosevelt Me- ; morial association, all members of which ; were long-time friends of Mr. Roose- : velt. William Howard Taft and Charles : E. Hughes are the honorary presidents ; of the association, and William Boyce j Thompson of New York City Is president, presi-dent, j Colonel C. E. Loose of Provo will be . the state chairman for the campaign in Utah and Governor Robert D. Carey of Wyoming wiil have supervision of the canvass in that state. The campaign will be conducted by states, counties and communities. The organization is now practically completed In Utah and Wyoming. It Is the purpose of the Roosevelt association to make a direct appeal to Americans of every party, denomination and ciass. Among the members of the national executive committee of the association are Major General Leonard Wood, Senator Sen-ator Henry Cabot Lodge, Governor R. Livingston Beckman of Rhode Island, Ellhu Root. Colonel George Harvey. Mrs. Medlll McCormlck of Chicago and Governor Gov-ernor James P. Goodrich of Indiana, Mr. Richmond is working under the supervision of Edward H. Brown, regional region-al director of the campaign. Brown and Richmond will leave for Portland shortly short-ly to launch the beginnings at the coast city. |
