Show Barley Prices Still Rule High. CHICAGO, Aug. 13. Agitation over the high cost of living has not depressed the barley market. On the contrary, the price of barley advanced 24c a bushel today and sales were made at Sl.o". the highest price yet this season. Malsters have been the most active buyers, and the impression impres-sion prevails that there have been extensive ex-tensive sales of malt to Europe. Rye jumped with barley and closed at i 22 to 3 cents advance. Export purchas- ing of rye today was estimated at 1,000,-U00 1,000,-U00 bushels. California barley is being sold for export ex-port at about $4" a hundredweight free j on board vessels at gulf porta, a price far I above that at which barley from the central cen-tral west could be offered free on board vessels in Atlantic ports. |
