Show BOARD APPROVES MIDJpTC Estimates for the road work to be undertaken un-dertaken along the connecting links on the Arrowhead trail in the southwestern corner of Utah were approved yesterday by the state commission and were sent to Washington to be approved by the federal officials. The project, which, it is estimated, will cost nearly 52,00000, will be financed by the federal government, govern-ment, the state and the counties through which the road will be built. The government's gov-ernment's portion will be half of the cost and the remaining half will oe divided between the state and the counties. The proposed road will be a nine -foot strip of cement -concrete, and one strip will extend from St. George to Cedar City and the other from Cedar City north to the line between Iron and Beaver counties. The first strip, covering a distance of fifty -six miles, is estimated to cost $1, -274. 911. 56, or ?2j,7ifi.28 a mile, and the second strip of forty-seven miles will cost ?8U!i.237.i!0, or $17,643.34 a mile. The commission approved the bid of Gibbons and Reed, which proved to be the lowest for the paving work to be undertaken in American Fork, if a difference dif-ference In the cost of cement would ba adjusted between the contractors and the commission. The bid of Gibbons and Reed was estimated on the cost of cement purchased at Salt Lake, and, as it is impossible im-possible to obtain the cement here, a difference per barrel at Devil's Slide, Utah, will have to be considered. The bid for the paving work totaled $119, 313. 82, of which the city will pay $14,S22.45, the abutting property owners $34,776.87 and the state $69,714.50. The county will pay 20 per cent of the state's portion. |
