Show nS5 Governor Urges All Citizens to Join Observance on October 9. Proclamation was issued yesterday by Governor B.imberfrer designating October 9 as Patriotic Fire Prevention day and urging that all fire departments throughout through-out the stare join with property owners and the schools in appropriate observation observa-tion of the day. Governor Bamberger's proclamation said : "During If IS more than $730,000 was paid by fire insurance companies on account ac-count of fire losses in Utah. A similar loss was suffered on the same property by the owners, who are seldom insured for j more than GO per cent of actual value. ' These items do not include the losses from a still greater number of fires, particularly on dwellings and their contents, not cov- j eri?d by insurance at all. "It is therefore obvious that millions of dollars are lost annually to the people of t his state from fires, and. when we consider that fully two-thirds of the losses are preventable and the remainder I purtly so. as shown by statistics of experts, ex-perts, the extent of this drain upon the j resources of our state is appalling, and I the necessity for awakening public inter- j est in the great cause of fire prevention I is evident. j "The extraordinary condition of pub-i pub-i lie unrest, wilh its accompanying dis-' dis-' order and the bold propaganda of de- 1 structi e ideas, makes it necessary to I j emphasize an occasion whose lessons are so clearly those of conservation, public safety and constructive ideals of citizenship." |
