Talmadge, Salt Lake, Reports to Hospital Hospi-tal for Discharge-Three Discharge-Three patients from the base hospital i at Camp Grant, III., arrived last night j at Fort Douglas and were assigned to j wards In the general hospital. They are Ralph R. Dreckman, Raymond W. Green and Claude J.' Jenkins. Field Clerk Paul B. Talmadge. son of Mr. and Mrs. James Talmadge, 304 First avenue, reported yesterday at the general gen-eral hospital at Fort Douglas to receive Physical examination prior to discharge, j Ho was with the 145th field artillery dur-I dur-I ing tho training period at Camp Kearny, working in the regimental personnel of-i of-i fice until made field clerk on tho staff of General Frederick S. Strong, com-; com-; mander of the Fortieth division. He ; served in France until he became ill and was sent to a hospital. He reached Salt Lake some time ago and has been passing pass-ing a furlough with his parents. Discharges yesterday were given Corporal Cor-poral Walter L. Parrish and Saverio J. Ventrelle, patients at the general hos-. pital. Two enlistments have been made at Fort Douglas by Captain J. M. Ward, recruiting officer. Arthur Bates, formerly for-merly living at the Moose lodge in Salt Lake, enlisted in G company of the 21st infantry for Alaskan service; Owen Rudy of Salt Lake enlisted for assignment assign-ment to a cavalry regiment. Tho contract for cleaning and repairing repair-ing the drainage system at Fort Douglas Doug-las has been given to the National Water Wa-ter Main Cleaning company of New York. Representatives of the company will be here early in April, according to Captain Louis V. DeBirny, post supply officer, and work will begm at that time. Work of cataloging the thousands of volumes which compose the new library installed in the Fort Douglas recreation building has been started by Miss Mary Downey, state librarian, and her assistants. as-sistants. Soldiers convalescing at the general hospital yesterday were guests of the girls of the JJniversity of Utah at a dance given in the post recreation hall under the direction of the Red Cross. Members of the Overseas Cheer club entertained en-tertained the patients during the morning and afternoon and supervised the dance later in the day. The final physical examination and concluding tests yesterday were given the applicants for admission to the United States Militapy academy at West Point by the examining board of officers at Fort Douglas. All the examinations were forwarded to Washington and announcements an-nouncements of the successful candidates will be made in about five weeks. |
