Show By Way of Explanation Tp? THIS issue of The Tribune appears somewhat abbreviated, thcro'a a ! ; JjL reason. Not without very good cause does The Tribune curtail its size j to the degree apparent in this edition. V, The country west of Colorado is isolated by a sleet storm, of almost mi- i J precodentcd severity. The news associations yesterday were unable to get V wire service until well along toward noon, and then only intermittently. This $ condition continued all last night. The Tribune is served by two Associated i $ Frcss wires, and in addition receives the New York Times-Chicago Tribune ( special wire service and the telegraphic report of the Universal News. 5' ! Ordinarily four wires are busy receiving the news dispatches of these asso- tirtioas. Last night the service was limited to a single wire, and the use ' of this was shared by the three news-gathering associations, each having ( tlie wire for a short period and then releasing it tp the others. . This limited service was made possible by relaying dispatches for points J ve.t of Denver over the Canadian Pacific telegraph wires, thence to Seattle I and San Francisco. Naturally there was a curtailment in tho volume of ; ( news dispatches, including the customary market reports. But the outstand- S j ing events were covered, nevertheless. 5 i It. is probable that an improvement in wire conditions will be secured ; in t!-.i for The Sunday Tril.Roc to benefit. vj |
