Show SALT LAKE ALMOST HAD ANOTHER HURLER Salt Lake almost had another new pitcher yesterday. In fact, they did have him for a few minutes; and then somebody some-body stepped on the wires and the stuff was off. Yesterday forenoon a telegram was received re-ceived from Manager Eddie Herr to the effect that he had closed with Pitcher Miles Main of the Philadelphia Nationals, and in 1917 with the Louisville club of the American association. Later a dispatch dis-patch was received saying the deal was off. Just why it was called off was not Business Manager John P. Cook of the Bees will go to San Francisco on Sunday to attend the special meeting of the league there Tuesday, at which time the directors will try to get together on a schedule. There are three tentative schedules out. One is known as "Mc-Credie "Mc-Credie No. 1," another as "McCredie No. 2" and the third as "Cook's." McCredie No. 1 is thought to be utterly impossible, since one of its features is sticking visiting visit-ing clubs in Salt Iake for two weeks at a stretch. McCredie No. 2 is satisfactory satisfac-tory to Salt Lake, as, of course, is also Cook's. The clubs are said to be divided four and four as between the McCredie plan and the Cook plan, and, rather than put j President Baum In the position of holding hold-ing the balance of power, the magnates deemed it advisable to get together to try for a reconciliation. |
